Jared is a scholar, traveler, thinker, storyteller, filmmaker,

handyman, mover, meditator, chef,

herbalist, husband,

dreamer,

world citizen.

Jared’s journey in life has been a wave of expansion and contraction (out of and) into new ideas, cultures         and ways of being.

He grew up among the butterfly weeds, sagebrush and wild asparagus

on an sweeping high mountain desert valley in southern Colorado,

    {{within a NarrowMindedReligiousOrder}}

After asking some fundamental questions that

Broke Ground like the radicle tip of a taproot seeks nutrients

he left to see the world,

studied chemistry and then international affairs, anthropology, geography and global media in college. He spent a semester in Buenos Aires, gaining a working command of Spanish and trying on the real big city. After school he published academic research on the genocide in the Darfur of Sudan, and worked with President Jimmy Carter’s peacemaking organization in Atlanta, GA for a summer.

From there he moved to San Francisco and dedicated two years to journalism, first in radio then in documentary television. During the following three years, he worked with an international academic bookseller and traveled throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Then, while drumming for a dance class with a Senegalese master drummer he met his wife, who is a dancer and choreographer. Under the sway of beauty, he quit his job to study dance and train capoeira. He and his wife voyaged to Benin, West Africa for the honeymoon to work on a dance collaboration between European dance teachers and the bboys, vodú dancers, national ballet choreographers and traditional dancers of the

exquisite, elaborately elegant, impoverished epicenter of the transatlantic slave trade.

From experience, travel and study,  Jared places great value on the cultivation of embodied knowledge, African philosophy, Latin American spiritualities, Native wisdom, Ancestral memory, and exploring the holographic nature of reality and culture….the cultivation of the seeds of time that incubate our human hearts in their kaleidoscopic beauty on the bio- ethnosphere of one of the milky way’s watery planets.

Jared’s healing path has been about answering the call from and longing for the Indigenous Soul native to each person’s deepest heart and escaping the confines of a cultural legacy that has ravaged the earth and threatens our collective existence.

The disillusionment of walking out of the sagebrush

and stepping into the “miserable villages” of life

appeared also as physical reality variety disease manifest that matters.

Drinking a pot of coffee and studying colonial his(now)story everyday left Jared with a chronic stomach ache. After visiting a respected doctor for more than a year and following all the MD’s protocols, Jared’s stomach was worse than before the antibiotics and barium radiography. He asked the doctor, “Could this be emotional, psychological, dietary?… Anything but this bacteria you say I have?” The doc simply said no, so Jared thanked the good doc with a bilingual book of poetry and set out to explore other paradigms of health and healing.

He went to see a Chinese Acupuncturist. He loved the purple buddha-belly tea pot that she         prescribed him and the Chinese roots & herbs worked wonders,

though Jared began to thirst for a local, native herbology.

[Once, after he lopped off the tip of his finger, an MD whispered to him,

“a relaxation technique like yoga or meditation &

a hot teabag of black tea will clear up that staph infection.”]

Prompted by the bookworm of his inner boy,

he bought James Green’s The Male Herbal and started to study Western Herbalism.

¿The plants…. ?  around this time he sought out the healing Power of the Drum,

and studied sound healing for a year with Silvia Nakkach at CIIS.

For years, Jared had dedicated himself to the art of cooking, and once he acknowledged his illness he began to explore and incorporate the principles of Chinese energetics and a Whole Foods approach to his cooking, which became his medicine. Over the years, his interest in the herbs and the application of healing techniques deepened. He decided to devote himself to transforming a personal healing journey into a public service and train as a clinical herbalist, un vegetalista.

Jared believes

That healing is a mysterious process that involves traveling through the webs of fire & water

myth, discipline, truth, suffering, history, ancestry

to untangle the knots of time and weave new fibers of existence.

That the plants are some of our greatest allies on this journey.

That their unique personalities also connect us to the land & sea & air & teach us how to be human.

That music, and birdsong, the friendship and the reception of deep listener

That dance and cultural awakening and ancient story and so much other goodness may also be the right         medicine.

That life is an interbeing symphonic riptide of wonder: that we are part of the earth and the earth is us.

That it follows that healing individuals is part of healing the earth and healing the earth is part of healing     each individual.

Jared seeks to support the changemakers, the activists, the heart-centered workers in all fields and the people who care.  and put the care in those who have forgotten.   With his practice, he aims to help reconnect people

to this moment in time &

to place.

He has personal experience working with various addictions, depressions, digestive disorders, and skin problems.                 following the poet Bolaño, he thinks there are times to

recite poetry and times to box fight.

    His prayer is to encourage:

        to act as ally/enHeart-en Fellow=Walkers

            to take the healing/correct action,

                            or, inaction/

to endure (with dignity & wisdom)

                        the (de)composition and creation of

the cosmic giggle we call life.

He writes a website called Recetaspoetas.org
